| You make some good points. It is extraordinary that the CIC doesn't at least publish the amount of revenue gained per annum for these events so the issue can be put in perspective. I do have to take issue with the insinuation that councillors or the CIC are in someway driven by the needs of foreign corporations rather than the interests of the community. By veering towards conspiracy theory territory you are undermining your case. You also might be placing too much faith in covenants. Talk to people living near Wimbledon Park about how much protection they offer. Sainsbury's car park in Chiswick is Metropolitan Open Land protected by a covenant and that is going to be built on. I recall at least two proposals that would have seen the partial loss of Gunnersbury Park to public use. One was for a private school to take over the mansion building and the other was for housing along Lionel Road North. You have to assume that the proposers of these schemes believed that any covenant wouldn't block them. We probably have to see years of decline before we are back at this stage but the worry would be that we have embarked on this road. |
