| It is upsetting to hear people ask why residents make a fuss over 'just a few days' of festivals. Here are the true numbers: what the CIC originally wanted for this year was 28 festival days. With the attendant set up and dismantle days, (lorries driving across the park, loud sound checks, swathes of the park fenced off) the total would be 118 days. Just short of 4 months, mostly during the better weather (when people would like to be able to open their windows) and the school holidays (when children use the park most). I lived in Lionel Road North for 33 years and attended innumerable productive meetings with councillors and officials on matters relating to the park. Since the CIC took over, however, residents' legitimate concerns have been brushed aside, residents arrogantly ignored and at the debriefs after each festival, simply fobbed off with promises that 'we will do better' which never materialise. |
