It's taken two years to destroy the remnants of the Morandi bridge in Genoa and to build a new one in its place. The reality is that this country can't build ANYTHING for less than eye-watering costs and incredible timescales. The cost of the environmental impact of the Lower Thames Crossing alone is HIGHER than the actual build cost of a tunnel in the notoriously cheap and unregulated Norway. https://www.samdumitriu.com/p/a-boring-story-about-infrastructure This is why the rump called HS2 is going to be more expensive than the entirety of the Italian HS system, including trains and stations. In the case of Hammersmith Bridge, moreover, you have a state that is completely unwilling to finance anything in London. First it was for political reasons, now... Who the hell knows. |
