Michael, I am not conflating the two objectives, they are inexorably linked. Its you because of your single focus on one mode of travel that you refuse to acknowledge that. I have to be 100% clear in my ealier and other posts stated that a stick component is needed too, but it needs to be more than just creating queues. As David notes everyone suffers in queues, its bad for the economy and also emergency services. Numerous UK cities have made it very hard to park in city centres but offer free park and rides. We have no joined up strategy for London. So we have many boroughs talking up LTNs and active travel, whilst at the same time making streets available to commuters. We have a large business park in W4 encouraging thousands to drive to Brentford stadium, despite as others note there is lots of public transport in the vacinity. So you agree on parking restrictions, which when I mentioned this before you made some wierd comment about moaning about everything. Surely there are other things we can agree on, or do you believe your cause is best served by disagreeing? There is I suspect some truth in the fact that the govt likes promoting cycle lanes as compared to running buses and trains they are v cheap, so you may feel a winner from the new age of austerity. Whether they work is not really relevant to BoJo and his mates. Plenty of people do choose public transport as its easier and quicker, even if its not cheaper (and getting ever more expensive). For a large number of people its also the only realistic choice. |
