Hi Mark Google Streetview has the latest situation I think. Their car was here last in August 2021. https://goo.gl/maps/cerjaiR76pJzhEMo9 is the link. Don't get me wrong, when going TO Brentford or Kew the current layout is brilliant, especially with the Stile Hall Gardens solution. But when you're coming FROM Brentford or Kew the layout is, well, vastly inferior. "Your continental colleagues may be puzzled by these designs but I'm sure experienced and knowledgeable people have worked on them and if compromises have been made they are necessary. " I'm not disputing that whoever designed CS9 has got a wealth of knowledge and expertise, and I'm sure many hours of thought have gone into it. But at the same time we have an infrastructure that gets pedestrians and cyclists awfully close together (Hammersmith end of King street, where indeed they resorted to put some barriers a while back), has a very weird 90 degree turn from one side of the road to the other (again Hammersmith), doesn't allow left-hand turns into Turnham Green Terrace when travelling eastbound, is very tricky to reach from North of CHR (as you say) and is substantially subpar when coming from Brentford or Kew if compared with the other direction. Sure, it's better than what was there before, i.e. nothing, but considering that we have so much wealth of knowledge to draw from and we had quite a large budget... it feels like a wasted opportunity. It is a bit sad to think that, these days, I'd rather cycle on Goldhawk road even though its cycle lane is nothing but a painted line with (always the same) cars parked on it as it's faster and more straightforward than CS9 for my needs. |
