To the best of my knowledge the classification of roads in apps like Waze is based on a taxonomy supplied by local authorities. This means that each stretch of road has a designation which indicates what sort of traffic it is suitable for. The mechanism for changing these designations appears to be a bit opaque but if large lorries are going through the Glebe Estate it is clearly wrong. Improved signage may help but increased reliance on navigation devices means that they often get missed and Hounslow may be reluctant to put up new signs as it would be an acknowledgement that traffic is being displaced from other schemes. Also budgets are very tight at the moment for projects not funded by central government. |
