Stating floridly, and frequently something which is objectively false does not make anyone "fierce" or "brave". GD sufferers are narcissists - they exhibit a desire to control including the desire to control someone else's reaction to the narcissist. David has been controlled by the "stunningly wrong" assertion of trans people. Trans have an extremely unusual confidence in stating an untruth which we should calmly reject. That does not mean rejecting the person, just knowing inside that that person suffers from a disorder. David has, I think, not had to deal every day with narcissists and so he has not queried his own reaction to them sufficiently. That is understandable. Why should he? We don't come across severely narcissistic people often. The narcissism is part of a pattern of denial. See these helpful articles: https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/basics/narcissism and an explanation of the rage when narcissists are frustrated: https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/blog/communication-success/201807/8-signs-narcissistic-rage. We should not always take a person at their own word but seek the feelings behind the words. |
