| Councillor Biddolph misrepresented the TfL pollution report, even after she was corrected by her fellow councillors. There is nothing insulting in making that point, and it is to the credit of her fellow councillors that unlike her they recognised and changed their views once the report was published. As you might have seen in in the Times today, the latest evidence from the segregated cycleway through the City is that pollution has been reduced along it, bringing it for the first time below the legal threshold. At the same time peak capacity, the sum of cyclists and motor vehicles, has actually increased. Of course neither the cycleways through the City, or through Winchmore Hill are cycleways along Chiswick High Road. But believing without any evidence that a cycleway through Chiswick will have the opposite effect compared to anywhere else is becoming increasingly untenable. As Keynes said "When the facts change, I change their mind. What do you do?" |
