| Paul, everyone is hedging their bets now, given the uncertainties, what do you expect people so say. Comments from Airbus yesterday (strangely not reported in the torygraph) highlight the need to ensure full market access. It is hard to see how this can be achieved whilst stopping free movements. Its this uncertainty that is the killer for business and new investment. Latest Credit Suisse business confidence survey across Europe shows its plunged in the UK. Nigel Farage and Gove want us to sever all ties with Europe, Farage wants the 200 mile fishing rights back (fishing employs 10k people). Last year the UK produced 1.5m cars, employing 800k people directly and supply chains, and exported nearly half to the EU. Life involves compromises, the public have been sold a series of half truths and impossible contradictions. From COO of Airbus commercial planes unit: “we haven’t pulled back on investment in the months running up to Brexit. We have no major decisions on the horizon, which gives us two-three years for the whole thing to settle down. But then there will be big decisions. We need a situation that is no less favourable than now. When I build a set of wings in Broughton and send them to Toulouse, I don’t need a thousand pages of documents and tariffs. That’s not just for me, but all UK industries." |
