| "We have been so reliant on the EU since 72 that the UK people have lost sight of the other markets that are out there in the world." A Kiwi friend was vastly amused when he heard that some leavers were proposing a return to trading with NZ. It is a market of 4.5million - let's say roughly half the size of London. And it's amply supplied by Far Eastern and Australian manufacturers, which are - relatively - on its doorstep compared with the UK. Open access to a market of 500 million which starts 22 miles from Dover is far more likely to keep bread on UK tables. |
