Since it isn't possible for me to put my stuff somewhere in the garden where it can be seen from the road, I have to put it on the pavement for collection. Most weeks plastic bottles, coffee cups and bags with the remains of take away foods are added to the green box and garden waste bags, by thoughtful passers by The crew just take them out and put them in a plastic sack in the truck and the same if they have been left on top of black sacks. If sacks are tightly tied it is impossible to open them without tearing the sack. If a malicious neighbour should happen to do so it would be obvious that it had been tampered with therefore no fine made. If food or unrinsed food containers have attracted foxes we would be fined anyway. Obviously recycling has to improve and all attempts at persuasion have not made enough difference so it has to be mandatory. What is the quickest, most effective and cost efficient way of doing it? We aren't looking at the use of bins or black sacks at all. So what would we like? A cheerful shade of pale bluebell, primrose or something more Cath Kidston? Perhaps a delicate eau de nil with ferny green fronds would enhance our streets in all seasons? |
