"The Council are not going to exempt streets because the residents make a lot of noise, start petitions or get themselves on the telly. They may change their mind if they can be shown a convincing argument." What makes you think we haven't already tried the convincing argument? We wrote a two-page letter outlining very many valid reasons why the imposition of wheelie bins is inappropriate for streets with small terraced houses and tiny front gardens, and explained this in person to Council Waste and Recycling officers who visited me and yet we still have been given wheelie bins - except for the >10% of the Glebe Estate who have opted out. We still hope for a reversal of this misguided scheme in streets such as ours, and will continue to fight it. Hence the petition! |
