Dan, you shouldn't get so overwrought about this issue. It makes your arguments confused and contradictory. I can only state again that when I walk to work on bin collection day I see a number of homes outside which there are more black bin bags than would fit in a wheelie bin. I also see every morning rubbish strewn on the street presumably by animals trying to get into black bags. Perhaps my route to work is unusually blighted by these problems and they don't occur elsewhere. If they do then wheelie bins will help in both regards. Whether you regard the people who made this decision as being 'in authority' or not is a pointless debate in semantics. Denigrating councillors and public officials is clearly a hobby of yours that you devote a great deal of time and energy to. My own view is that while self-interest and incompetence often do appear in local government, in most cases those in authority do try to serve the public good to the best of their ability. Gail, as you quite sensible seem to be focusing on the specific issue of where wheelie bins are being introduced rather than the quixotic notion of trying to stop them altogether, have you made a FoI request for a list of all the streets exempted from wheelie bins. If you can show that the policy has been implemented inconsistently across the borough, you may have a good chance of getting some amendments. |
