"Gail, as you quite sensibly seem to be focusing on the specific issue of where wheelie bins are being introduced rather than the quixotic notion of trying to stop them altogether, have you made a FoI request for a list of all the streets exempted from wheelie bins." Thanks Paul. Naomi Markham informed me that, in the current scheme, it is only individual houses that are exempt, not whole streets. That is why we are trying to get the whole scheme reversed on streets with small terraced houses and tiny front gardens, which are completely inappropriate for wheelie bins. The Council initially stated that this would be the case, but have reneged on that decision. Or, at the very least, we would like the bin men to continue to collect black bags from houses which have opted out of the scheme. I noticed this morning that it is very easy to throw a black bag into the wheelie bin trucks, which the SITA operatives were doing. |
