Dear Richard, My point is that I would prefer my MP to be familar with the area and have a strong grounding and knowledge of ongoing and previous issues. For instance I understand Mary Macleod recently made a statement that airplanes flying over Heathrow should be fitted with engines that made less noise. 30 years ago the then Tory MP for Hampton Court Toby Jessel presented this requirement - well as we all know nothing came of this! If Mary Macleod has done some research/homework she would have known this. Obviously if people want to vote for parliamentry candidates outside their constituancy that up to them but frankly I see this as a disadvantage. Finally I do think it's important for the local MP to be knowledgeable and take a interest in world affairs, working towards peace and justice. As you are probably aware Mary Macleod is quite active in supporting the interests of Israel - her voting record supports this |
