"..Anne Keen whose husband was terminally ill and needed to be nearer to Westminster and whose house was under repair.." Except the Keen-Expenses' decision to use public money for their second home pre-dated both those matters. They didn't like having to commute to and from Brentford alongside her constituents. Yes, many other MPs exploited the expenses system but these two were the representatives of the Hounslow Labour Party, which is the one that concerns us in this constituency, and has not disassociated itself from their actions - many other MPs who abused the expenses system were de-selected by their local associations. Is the Hounslow Labour Party still under special measures ? Judging by the actions of Cllr Ed Mayne they certainly don't believe in local democracy. No one says Mary Macleod has lived in the borough all her life, but she has for many years, which is contrary to what you claimed in your first post. |
