"I understand that Mary Macleod lived in Kensington before she lived in Chiswick and before that stood as a candidate in Scotland in 1997.." What is your point, Patricia ? Milibean Minor is MP for Doncaster North, a part of the country with which he had no links before being selected by the Labour Party to stand in a safe seat. Even the highly respected Frank Field admits that he did not know where Birkenhead was before being selected as Labour candidate there. Alan Johnson, a Londoner born and bred, is Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle. Similar stories could be told of many MPs from all parties. Mary Macleod has lived elsewhere and has stood for election elsewhere but that does not change the fact that she has long-standing links with the constituency she has worked hard to represent over the last four years. I don't know if she stood up for the Israelis when Hamas was firing numerous rockets at them, but perhaps she thought that taking a position on the intractable conflict in that part of the world was not a vital part of the job of being MP for Brentford & Isleworth. |
