I am not basing my view that the plan would fundamentally change Holland Park Avenue on alternative facts supplied by Jeremy Clarkson rather it is from looking at the CGI images published by TfL.

The high casualty rate on the road is a concern but it is likely a fraction of collisions involve cyclist proceeding straight along Holland Park Avenue and most were at junctions. These junctions and their attendant danger will remain and many argue that having emerging traffic across a two way cycle lane will increase them. Plus you will inevitably have a significant increase in cyclist on pedestrian collisions a small proportion of which will result in serious injuries.

It isn't possible to fully segregate cyclists on a roundabout and even with dedicated phases and more designated road space it will remain an intimidating place for all but the most experienced cyclist.

Overall the cost benefit of this section of the scheme doesn't really stack up. If you had £40mn to spend on safety you could save more lives in the area than you would with this scheme and I don't believe it would lead to a significant rise in cycling along the route.

Whatever we all think the plan is dead so there is little point in arguing the toss. The question is can the other section of the routes still proceed. This seems to offer much more potential.
