To answer Richard Jenning's question, which has also been raised by Richard Greenhough and others, as to what NECESSITY made us place the solar panels on our wall before receiving confirmed planning approval. In June, we had to book scaffolding for the maintenance of our windows overlooking the Brewery. It was suggested that we take this opportunity to put solar panels on the upper part of our wall. The presence of scaffolding, would make it economically possible to put the panels on the wall provided it could be done by the 1st of August when the tariff rates would change. It was not possible to get Planning Permission in time but we were advised by the officers of the Planning, Highways and Energy Depts. that it was to be like;ly to be granted - because of the Council's commitment to the Govt's energy objectives. If we had waited for Planning Permission it would not have been feasible to put up the panels at a later date as the maintenance work could not be delayed, meaning that scaffolding would have had to be put up again and we would have missed the tariff deadline. We took, what we were led to believe was a small risk, because we feel that it is necessary for all of us to do what we can to diminish our dependence on oil. |
