Perhaps people are aiming too high with regard to home ownership and the opportunities for the average Joe have gone, for now at least. With wages being frozen or cut in some cases it is increasingly hard for people to aspire to this. It's only really since the late 70's that the average person could get on the ladder and then it was a struggle, certainly for my family. One of the practical things we can do to help our country and its economy is some small way to reduce the amount of money we spend abroad and go on holiday in Britain and buy goods manufactured in Britain.Buying goods in small shops on high streets may help a little also and help to keep those arear open as centres of commerce.Once shops are gone in any number from a high street it is hard to attract new shopkeepers. Many things that we do could feel a bit like changing deck chairs on the Titanic but we have to keep plugging away which is what we are good at. |
