No the important point is that the Scotch estuarial fixed road crossings are all now toll-free; whereas those south of the Tweed-Solway line are not - WHY? Rather than stinging punters further by charging for provision of long-deferred basic access facilities at stations, perhaps they should be entitled to free travel (or paid to travel in the case of freedom pass holders) at stations or bus stops which lack the basic passenger amenities. That WOULD give the transport providers a powerful incentive to get their act together and their funding priorities right - how about Private Member Bill, Stephen Pound MP, if you can't get your government to take the initiative and do the decent thing? Re lavatories, there's certainly a need (and currently a serious lack) in local centres like north Greenford, not necessarily specfically at or associated with rail stations. Re Wormwood Scrubs, and more importantly Hammersmith Hospital, the absurd and outrageous lack of a Central Line station there is just another longstanding symbol of this country's (or rather its ruling class's) inability and/or unwillingness to get its act together. |
