My point about the Humber Bridge was it was obsolete before it was built as M62 had been extended eastwards and A63 had been upgraded and so the northward connection from M180, which does run out in the middle of nowhere, was irrelevant. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/businessandpartners/passenger-numbers-at-underground-stations.pdf is self-explantory, if one reads the column titles carefully. I would propose that the vast majority of passengers are commuters to and from Greenford. Only about a fifth of the area within walking distance of the station is housing, and for central London there are more amenable railway services to the north. So, to my proposition I would add that anyone in employment is fit enough to walk down the stairs at Greenford, and up, if the escalator isn't working. Lift/escalator installation is better suited to stations like Northfields, South Ealing, and Ealing Broadway where there are far more old biffers to take advantage of the technology. |
