By some bizarre happenstance I found myself in the Royal Courts of Justice late last night with GLA Cllr.Richard Barnes and took the opportunity to have a word about Greenford Station. If there is a political difference between us it is in the area of fiscal stimulus in that I believe that it makes sound good sense to continue the station improvement programme which will provide employment for numerous tradespeople and skilled workers as well as making it easier for commuters to remain in employment. Infrastructure projects are the classic Keynesian mechanism for both stimulating an economy and providing a beneficial legacy for the future and Greenford station ticks all the boxes for me. The Mayor of London and his Transport for London have the money and have the right to set spending priorities and local people in Ealing have the right to demand attention. As I've often said - one of the rules of political life is that the squeaking wheel gets the oil and we need to squeak as one voice to prioritise Greenford Station against the seductive siren songs of east London. |
