"This is an ideal opportunity of a private partnership initiative: make it a "toll" lift! Just like M6 around Birmingham, the Humber estuary crossing and the two Severn crossings." - Utterly wrongheaded miscomparison in the following respects:- 1) The Humber Bridge is entirely publicly funded not a ppp, as was the original Severn road bridge - ppp only came in with the second bridge, together with the current utterly crackpot and unfair one-direction-only toll system. 2) Comparable road bridges in Scotland (Forth, Tay, Clyde and Skye - only the last-named having been ppp) are now entirely toll-free, ie heavily subsidised by the people of all England without their consent. What's good for Scotch motorists should also be good for English (and Welsh) travellers and freight consignors, including Greenford rail passengers. Stephen Pound MP please note and act - this outrageous fleecing of all of us south of the Tweed-Solway line is the deliberate product of YOUR Scotch-dominated government - sure I don't need to remind you that (among others) the top two posts (Prime Minister and Finance Minister) are both held by Scotch MPs sitting for Scotch constituencies, entirely free from any accountability to those of us south of said line. Time for you and other English MPs to make things more than a bit uncomfortable for this foreign dual dictatorship. |
