Asylum Support: Around 107,000 individuals receive basic government support while waiting for their claims to be processed. This typically consists of free, assigned accommodation and a basic allowance of £49.18 per person per week, loaded onto an ASPEN debit card for food, clothing, and toiletries. Granted Refugees: Once an asylum seeker is officially granted refugee status, they are permitted to work and can claim mainstream benefits. Statistics show that over 200,000 refugees claim welfare benefits like Universal Credit. Meaning that they are not capable of higher earning jobs or contributing to the system. They are draining it. |
