We learn today that Lord Mandelson actually failed his American security test undertaken by the Foreign office. When the PM told the House that his newly appointed Ambassador to the USA had undergone all vetting procedures, the implication being he was unaware of Mandelson's improprieties. Some may find it hard to believe the Foreign office would fail to inform the PM of Mandelson's failings immediately they found out. Come Monday Sir Keir will try to prove his innocence, and if it is proved he lied or deceived the House resignation is the only option open to him, even for the distinguished son of a Tool Maker.
