My apologies and thank you Richard and Richard. You are both correct. It was the Duke of York (Bertie) the future King George VI who accompanied his Dad to Duke's Meadows to open the Civil Service Sports Ground in 1926. I have a print of the Opening and will upload it when I remember how to do it! There is a brief clip on YouTube too. I was interested to read on earlier postings that the railway bridge on the Great Chertsey Road is called ALEXANDRA. I recall years ago on the Forum that Paul Allen said the railway bridge at the end of Sutton Court Road was known as the Devonshire Bridge. .but no plaque survives ...or does it? And where is Paul these days. He was the Masonians expert. |
