Colin The information came from research at the Chiswick Library You have to go back before 1938, as Chiswick Bridge wasn't opened until 1933 After the failed attempt to sell off Dukes Meadows to the Gas company. Charles and Dan Mason purchased part of Duke Meadows for their sports club and added the factory in Staveley Gardens Later. Alexandra Avenue was the main access road to the Gravel Pit working on the west side of the railway line to the river with the entrance opposite Hartington Road and the gravel workings in Hartinton Road. To enable the contractors to do this they built A bridge over the railway on Alexandra Avenue called Alexandra Bridge, which is still in use today. |
