Colin you are going around in circles. Forget Alexandra Avenue for a minute. When the flats were built the was a very short road running from the A316 through the center of the development to a service road that ran along the back to the car parking and garages. This road was called Alexandra Gardens, but it was closed and filled in by the council. So the only way you can enter this development now is by using the old service road, now called Alexandra Gardens. The is a Farm house and yard that lays back at the eastern end of the flats That had a access road that ran past the end of the flats and joined the A316 by the traffic lights with Edensor Road. The access was also closed off and the the part of the road the still there is called Market Drive. The leads to the grove Park Farm House and yard. If you spent the amount of time I have researching the local area by finding the local maps that are held in the library you would find the information too. Check out these two websites http://www.dukesmeadowspark.com/areahistory.html http://chiswickpolish.homestead.com/ You will also find that this area of Chiswick was nearly demolish to make way for a motorway that was going to run from the M4 following the Railway line over the Thames at Barnes Bridge and trough the middle of Barnes. You said Alexandra Road has never existed. It did Alexandra Avenue, where do you think Alexandra Gardens got its name from, but you have stop searching on the Internet, the info is not all on there. |
