...and why is it called "Alexandra"? Well Edward VII as Prince of Wales lived in Chiswick House with his wife Alexandra and family. The Great Chertsey Road started at the site of the Hogarth Roundabout (Mawson Lane) and extended to Richmond, Whitton, Hanworth and further. Along the way it is also called "The Avenue" in St Margarets, Twickenham Road in Richmond, Lower Mortlake Road, Popham Gardens...etc. But this doesn't answer the OP's question! |
