| Fair point but not 100% accurate. It's best described as a form of democracy. It may have its uses. But it also has its limitations. The notion that a nationwide sampling should dictate policy is interesting. Let's consider other issues we might put to such a non-binding opinion referendum: - abortion - capital punishment - whether we scrap council tax - greenhouse emissions targets - use of physical force towards young hoodlums (say, on scooters) - membership and payments to NATO I'm thoroughly looking forward to building a case for all of these issues. I see the billboard now - "tax the rich sh***s in their London mansions and build a hospital in Hartlepool". We'd get a landslide. Democracy of sorts |
