My wife and I chose to live in Chiswick because of the attraction of the High Road, the trees and the friendly animated pedestrians chatting on the wide pavements. Then there was a plan to make the High Rd a dual carriage way by reducing the width of the pavements. We joined a vociferous campaign to prevent this plan going rward. Why LBH does not appreciate what an attractive environment they have in Chiswick, I shall never understand. Having spoken to a number of cafe owners/managers I was amazed at the number of coffees the have sell just to cover the rent for using the pavement. Many of my friends and relatives from the UK and abroad have commented on the lively and attractive street scene. LBH used to employ a town planner who shared my views. Alas, I now have to conclude that so many LBH members and officials are visually illiterate. |
