OK, I disagree with your assumption that cyclists 'don't think the sign should be there' (and I also disagree with your statement that motorists don't question they were in the wrong - have you heard of the expression 'revenue raising' - but, no matter). Someone has decided that cycling here will cause a problem, so they ban it, but a person riding a bicycle will look at the sign and decide for themselves if there really is a problem. I think you will understand better if (when) you ride a bike. Maybe you will obediently dismount and walk for a while along the almost deserted path - after you do this for a minute you will think 'why the blazes am I walking here' and you will get on your bike. Or try one of the 'cycle paths' that has a cyclist dismount sign, they never have a 'get back on your bike now' sign. The cycle path leading to T5 at LHR is best - there are SIX cyclist dismount signs on the cycle path!!! - what is that all about. |
