The original question was why do cyclists not adhere to "no cycling" signs etc. I would also ask why do pedestrians cross roads when the little man is red, why do people pay tradesmen etc cash to avoid VAT (illegal) - the list is endless. In the case of the original question: on Chiswick Bridge at the moment cyclists are asked to dismount on the pavement on either side. I am a cyclist and a car driver; I will cycle on that pavement until I see a pedestrian and then either slow right down or try to get past safely. Walking past with the bike is almost impossible as there is insufficent room so if I have to I will just wait behind. And the reason? I have cycled on the road over the bridge and there are large signs stating "Narrow lanes - drivers do not overtake cyclists". Only in one single instance has a car not overtaken me for the duration of the bridge. At all other times every car has overtaken me and it's not safe for cyclists. I rest my case! |
