I don't think its as black and white as that. I rarely cycle in such enviroments and if I ever do its at a snails pace and will stop when close to any interaction with anyone. Am confident enough to take the roads and usually do. There are some instances though where a sign is only up because the path in question is not technically wide enough to be deemed shared use. An example is Chertsy Bridge which is undegoing repair. If there is noone on the footway I am cycling over it all day long as the road is dangerous. Even if there is I will until I reach the person then stop and let them past with me on the road side. Hammersmith Bridge however I never would as there is too much footfall. I would say like me most people respect 90% of them signs but there are odd occasions in the right enviorment when you are doing no harm and its ok to use some of them. |
