At one time Sweden and Norway were a single country, then the Norwegians chose to secede. At one time the Kingdom of Northumbria included Edinburgh and all the east coast of modern-day Scotland up to the Forth. Scotland has not existed as a separate country for over three hundred years. That is not to say that it could not do so again, just as Mercia or Wessex could do. |
