Err, idiots ?!. But what's the relevance ?. Most of us will witness every day a cyclist cycle straight through a red light, not a light that's somewhere between amber and red, just like I did yesterday morning and this morning (when I also saw a cyclist approaching a red light at a pedestrian crossing immediately mount the pavement to bypass the lights), whereas I can count on two hand the times I've seen a car drive through a completely red light. Now yes a cyclist isn't as likely to maim/kill someone going through a red light as a speeding car is, but that doesn't make it any more right or acceptable. Strictly speaking the other evening I was out on a training ride and I 'lost' a good 10 minutes either stuck at red lights or in queuing traffic. I could have saved that time by either riding through red lights or by going on the pavements. I didn't, because (1) the time lost when on a training run doesn't actually hinder my training, I'm still out there riding and for 90% of the time my ride isn't affected (which is why when I see 'proper cyclists' ignoring red lights etc. I get really annoyed) and (2) I know how annoying it is to other road users and pedestrians. |
