To the pretty young lady who cycled along the pavement towards the towpath on Strand on the Green today and whom I had to yield to as a pedestrian so she could cycle past me on the pavement to let her follow her dad or friend that I also had to get out of the way for... "Thanks" for calling me a bitch and telling me to "F*** off" when I politely asked that you cycled on the road (Thames Road, which - by the way - had NO cars or traffic to speak of at the time) so I wouldn't have to jump out between 2 parked cars to let you pass. Being told politely that you're in the wrong cycling on the pavement might not be entirely pleasant (and I really WAS polite where I didn't necessarily need to be), but having it yield a response of "F*** off, bitch" shows an astounding lack of manners - but at least you got to cycle safely to the pub... Classy... I am both a cyclist, pedestrian and driver locally. Admittedly not at the same time - which would be some sort of impossible, LOL. I think the name of the game is to show everyone due consideration. I am not tarring cyclists, drivers or pedestrians with the same shitty brush, just asking that we show each other some consideration. If it's not safe to cycle along a road, get off your bike and pull it along the pavement. I pull my dog closer to me on the lead when passing other people. I get off my bike and pull it along the pavement when it's not safe for whatever reason to cycle on the road etc. etc. A wee bit of thinking and a fair amount less name calling and shouting would go a long way. |
