I reckon the proportion of bad cyclists is the same as the proportion of bad drivers. In my 30 years of cycling in London I have had very few negative reactions to driver. I was told to get onto the pavement once when I asked a driver who had used his horn when behind me, not to do so as it is too loud, been bullied into moving over when stopped at read lights in the advance stop box, to allow a driver to move forward in my place and a few such incidents. On an average 2 mile journey I will probably notice 30 or so drivers using their mobiles, a couple jumping red lights which I have stopped at, obstructing boxed junctions and the list can go on. Of course cyclists should follow the high way rules and prosecuted if they don't, many of us do. We probably hate the rude, pavement riding, swearing, spitting, kicking, light running, mirror breaking cyclists more than you do as they make cycling more dangerous for the law abiding cyclist. |
