When cycling, I get bored by being told/shouted what to do by motorists and pedestrians. I just wish they would mind their own business. I have been yelled at for jumping a red light when I was stationary waiting at the lights, on the assumption, presumably that I was going to jump the lights. I have been shouted at by a pedestrian whilst getting off my bike to walk it down an alleyway, where cycling was not permitted and various other occasions when other people think that they know more about what I am doing than I do. I do occasionally make mistakes for example, when I have not seen someone step onto a crossing because they come out from behind a car, but I as I don’t go very fast I can stop in time,(touch wood) even when they are not on the crossing – doesn’t stop them mouthing off, though. I do cut down a one way street when the railway barrier is down at Acton, but I stay away from cars because I am aware that I shouldn’t be doing it, not because I don’t think the law applies to me. I sympathise with those who are spat and sworn at or have their vehicles damaged, but I agree that it seems to be human nature to behave like that, rather than simply confined to a single form of transport. |
