I do not wish to make a blanket defence of cyclists anymore than I think they should be condemned en masse, but I do post this in the hope that those people who insist that it is axiomatic that the behaviour of *a* cyclist is typical of *all* cyclists and that bicycles are a threat to road safety at least pause for thought. https://medium.com/@CarlAlviani/why-bikes-make-smart-people-say-dumb-things-9316abbd5735 I am a cyclist and I can categorically state that I do not do any of the things that condemn cyclists in the eyes of so many (jump red lights, fail to stop to zebras, ride on pavements where cycling is prohibited, ride the wrong way up one way streets...). I do, however, genuinely fear the anger generated by the very vocal anti cycling lobby that leads some people to attack cyclists simply for daring to be on the roads - something that has happened to me on several occasions although luckily it has only ever been verbal but always yelled from a large metal vehicle that could do me a lot of harm. |
