I consider myself very fortunate that I wasn't furloughed and was able to continue working, and continue to see colleagues throughout the entirety of the pandemic. Because I wasn't furloughed I was never fully aware of the precise details of the scheme, however some form of furlough scheme was always going to be needed, and it would have been a lifeline to many millions of people. I imagine any (afordable) scheme would always be open to abuse - at a certain point the cost of rooting out fraud is going to be more than the cost of the fraud that you've prevented. |
