My newspaper has been speculating about property taxes a lot lately, though whether these are really proposals the government is considering or just Murdoch Labour-bashing is hard to tell. One is for an annual tax on properties worth more than £500k. Rightmove has only 130 properties in W4 under this threshold, most of them 1-bedroom flats or even studios. Then there is the CGT on primary residences sold for more that £1.5m. So, that's most of Grove Park/Bedford Park then. Either idea would be electoral suicide. The Tories and Reform would instantly pledge to reverse then if elected and the housing market would go into deep freeze until the next election. |
