But if you look at the other thread just on wet wipes you will see that Water UK (the trade association for the water industry created in 1998) now seems to be saying that just taking the plastic out of wet wipes is not going to be the answer to stop wet wipe islands and blocked pipes - although it does stop all the microplastics entering the rivers and oceans to be eaten by us all. It looks like they have tried to find some solution but it isn't working. They are now saying: ALL wet wipes need to be BINNED and not flushed. I remember when Thames Water took Kimberley-Clark to court some time ago and won because of the way they were advertising wipes being flushable. If you look at the article from The Times in that thread (surprisingly not behind a paywall) it is the same company which perhaps have changed their formulation and which are perhaps more openly on the front of the pack now saying just one or two can be flushed - but sadly there is a very definite lack of conscience and self control displayed by people nowadays. I remember years ago seeing a pack (I can't remember which brand) which said "flushable" in eye-catchingly big letters on the front of the pack but on the back basically said something like "only one at a time". I can't imagine anyone just using one when cleaning a baby's bottom. I also tried to find out what the definition of "flushable" was and who defined it! |
