| In my experience the majority of older properties have a combined system with rain water and foul mixing in the same manhole before going into the main sewer. For many years though it has been a requirement of building regulations that rainwater from new extensions has to go into soakaways in the garden. If the garden is too small then it is permitted to discharge the water into the sewer system. I am pretty sure that on new build houses rainwater has to go into soakaways rather than the sewer system. |
