| Several other boroughs (City of London and Lambeth to name two) have done a systematic review of all one way streets in their boroughs to determine if two way cycling should be enabled. I think in the City two way cycling is now allowed in every one way street. It is all standard stuff... assessing each street against a set of criteria and making a decision as to which of the set of possible measures could be implemented. e.g. https://beta.lambeth.gov.uk/streets-roads-transport/cycling-walking/two-way-cycling-one-way-streets Devonshire Rd (and Cranbrook Rd) were made one way to stop cars rat-running between Chiswick Lane and Chiswick High Rd and cycling wasn't permitted because it was believed there wasn't enough space because of the parked cars (even though there are plenty of other streets with even less space). A classic example of people not in cars being disadvantaged because of problems created by cars. |
