| Just to go back to the original post there are a number of points that need to be considered. Firstly, is speeding actually an issue on the retail stretch of Devonshire Road? I can't recall ever seeing a car reaching a particularly high speed before or after the restriction. Secondly, what difference does the restriction make either way? A driver who is going to ignore the speed limit will also ignore an access restriction. From what I'm told many Glebe Estate residents learned fairly quickly that if there was no white Serco van on the road you could drive up without concern and if there was you simply pulled up where you could to demonstrate that you required access. They will probably continue to do that until the ANPR cameras are introduced at which point there may start to be even more serious issues with traffic on the roads that have been suffering with displacement particularly in the evening rush. It seems to me inexplicable that local access was not given to Grove Park residents. |
