| Interesting article in the Chiswick Calendar. It appears that the new scheme is not being universally celebrated. Not everybody loves Dry Cleaning World after all. Judging by the tone of her questions least of all Cllr Biddolph who appears quite dismayed by any restrictions for vehicles despite residents telling the Council they want fewer vehicles on the road and despite 70% of responses to her survey of traders opting for stricter restrictions on vehicles than the now defunct version of the scheme contained. Devonshire Road residents I have spoken to in the past few weeks (both in Homefields and Turnham Green Wards) are very annoyed that the Chiswick Councillors did not canvass their opinions and suspect it was because they favoured the vocal minority in the Glebe Estate who support the policy to preserve the hegemony of the car in Chiswick. All grist for the mill for next May's elections. https://chiswickcalendar.co.uk/devonshire-rd-reopened-to-vehicular-traffic/?mc_cid=c9477e64f0&mc_eid=78cff87a6b This is another six month trial. Very good news that there will be permanent enforcement cameras because those Vinoteca tables will not be popular if Glebe Estate residents continue to speed down the narrow road after 5pm as they were doing yesterday evening. In the meantime don't forget to buy shares in dry cleaners, luxury rug shops, osteopaths and pet shops. The boom time is here but it may only last six months. |
