They were planted as the result of a community initiative much like what Karen Liebreich does with Abundance (here's the part where I ask Karen if her new garden on Turnham Green Terrace got bulldozed to make way for a cycle lane and I say something like "small price to pay" what would her reaction be?). More trees would have been planted but no more spaces are available as was determined long ago. If TfL had surveyed the street in detail, they would know this. And if they were genuine about their "like for like" position, they would have called for 25-year old specimens for Holland Park and I'd say roughly 100-150 year old specimens for CHR. Indeed.
