| The meeting was called because there IS awareness of the problem and how it affects us all. And if it wasn’t searching for solutions it was a waste of everyone’s time. You cannot search for solutions without discussing money. You can’t even discuss causes without disucssing money - cutting of youth clubs etc. There’s a good article in the ST today by Christina Lamb talking of the Violent Crime Task Forces, four across London, which is one attempt to deal with this problem. Four, how ever, hardly seems enough. Better CCTV seems a good idea. And, although controversial, increasing stop and search might help detect knives. It all takes money, however. Ruth Cadbury is not my MP as it happens so I have no idea if she is good, bad or indifferent. I just think it is inevitable that she raises cuts because the two issues are connected. Given most people on all sides are worried it needn’t descend into party politicking. It seems to be the response has been more about party politics than anything she said, which is a pity. |
